Cofio’r Nadolig / Remembering Christmas

I Fethlem Jwda, dyma’r dydd
daeth newydd da o’r nef
Duw ymddangosodd yn y cnawd
ein Brawd yn wir yw ef

John Thomas 1742 – 1818

Cynhaliwyd nifer o ddigwyddiadau amrywiol yn saith eglwys yr Ofalaeth i ddathlu’r Nadolig eleni. Mae’n braf cael cyfle i edrych yn ôl ar y digwyddiadau hapus hynny nawr.

Cynhaliwyd gwasanaeth Carolau i’r Gymuned yn Wystog, ac roedd pob sedd yn y capel yn llawn. Cafwyd gwasanaethau hyfryd yng nghwmni’r plant a’r bobl ifanc yn Nghapeli Bethel, Treamlod a Walton East. Roedd te parti blasus yn y ddau le wedi’r gwasanaethau, a daeth Sion Corn i ymweld â ni ar y naill achlysur fel y llall! Cynhaliwyd Cwrdd Nadolig Clwb Ffermwyr Ifanc Llys-y-Fran yng nghapel Gwastad, drws nesaf i gartref y clwb. Cawsom hefyd gyfarfod Carolau Unedig yn festri Capel y Tabernacl yn Nhyddewi, oedd wedi’i addurno’n hyfryd a thymhorol, lle daeth plant, pobl ifanc, ac oedolion y ddinas ynghyd i gyd-addoli.

Cynhaliwyd Cymanfa garolau am y tro cyntaf hefyd yng nghapel Presbyteraidd Trefin. Daeth nifer dda yno i gyd-ganu. Er nad yw’r capel hwnnw’n rhan swyddogol o’r Ofalaeth, gan ei fod wedi cau, mae cymdeithas fywiog o gyfeillion wedi ffurfio sy’n ei ddefnyddio ar gyfer addoliad a gweithgareddau cymdeithasol yn y pentref.

Ar ddydd Nadolig, cadwyd traddodiad sy’n ymestyn yn ôl am dros ganrif a mwy drwy gynnal gwasanaeth Plygain yn festri’r Tabernacl am 6 o’r gloch yn y bore bach, cyn iddi wawrio hyd yn oed. Yna am 10, yn Wystog, cawsom wasanaeth Nadolig yr Ofalaeth.

Codwyd arian at elusennau mewn nifer o’r cyfarfodydd. Yng ngwasanaeth carolau’r gymuned yn Wystog codwyd arian tuag at gronfa goffa Catrin Vaughan. Yn Nhreamlod, codwyd arian tuag at adnewyddu Ysbyty Dr Gordon Roberts yn Shillong yng Ngogledd Ddwyrain yr India. Yn Walton East, cefnogwyd elusen leol sef y Trussell Trust sy’n cynnal banciau bwyd i’r anghenus yn Sir Benfro, a chasglwyd arian tuag at gapel Gwastad gan Glwb Ffermwyr Ifanc Llysyfran.

Diolch i bawb a gyfrannodd at y dathliadau a’r addoliad yn ystod tymor y Nadolig diwethaf!

Cadwch olwg ar y blog yn gyson, oherwydd yn ystod y misoedd nesaf, cewch gyfle i ddarllen ychydig o hanes bob capel, gan gynnwys eich capel chi. Hyd yn oed os nad ydych yn aelod o’r Ofalaeth ar hyn o bryd mae croeso i bawb yn y gymuned i ymuno yn yr holl wasanaethau a’r gweithgareddau a gynhelir yno. Cofiwch, bydd croeso cynnes i bawb bob amser.

Hark the glad sound! The Saviour comes,
the Saviour promised long;
let every heart prepare a throne,
and every voice a song.

Philip Doddridge 1702 – 1751

A variety of events were held in the Pastorate’s seven churches to celebrate Christmas this year. Let’s take a quick look back at those happy times now.

Peth o'r bwyd a gasglwyd i'r Trussell Trust yn Walton East

Woodstock Chapel hosted a Community Carol Singing service, and every seat was full. The children and young people of the pastorate gave two brilliant services in Bethel, Ambleston, and Walton East, with a tea party full of Christmassy treats at each one, which even Father Christmas himself attended! Llys-y-Fran Young Farmers’ Club’s Christmas Service was held in Gwastad, the chapel right next door to the club’s home. We also had a Joint Carol Service in the wonderfully and Seasonally decorated vestry of Tabernacle, St David’s, with the children, young people and the adults of the City all joining in the worship.

A Carol Service was also held for the first time at Trefin Presbyterian Chapel, where a good crowd came to sing together. Whilst this chapel is not an official part of the Pastorate, since it has closed, a community of friends have come together to use the chapel for worship and for the social events of the village.

On Christmas Morning, a tradition that stretches back over a century and more was upheld in St David’s, with the Plygain service in the vestry of Tabernacle Chapel at 6am. Then, at 10am at Woodstock, we had the Pastorate’s Christmas Day service.

Money was raised for charities at many of these meetings. In the Community Carol Service at Woodstock, money was raised for the Catrin Vaughan memorial fund. At Ambleston, the money raised went to renewing the Dr Gordon Roberts Hospital in Shillong in North East India. Walton East supported a local charity, the Trussell Trust, that runs the food banks in Pembrokeshire. The Llys-y-Fran Young Farmers Club service raised money for Gwastad Chapel.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the celebrations and the worship during the Christmas season last year!

Keep a regular eye on the blog, because during the next few months you’ll get the chance to read a little about the history of each chapel, including your own. Even if you aren’t a member of the Pastorate at the moment you’re welcome to join in all the services and activities that are held there. Remember, there is always a warm welcome to everyone at Woodstock Pastorate.
